VGW Tightens Player Protection with Personalized Spending Limits at Chumba Casino and LuckyLand Slots

VGW, the company behind Chumba Casino, LuckyLand Slots, and Global Poker, announced new personalized spending limits to promote responsible gaming across its sweepstakes casino brands.

The update came during the Online Social Games Expo, hosted by the Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) after sweepstakes casino representatives were excluded from next week’s Global Gaming Expo discussions. The event featured industry leaders from VGW, Yellow Social Interactive, and ARB Interactive, focusing on player safety and transparency in the social casino space.

Average Player Spends $25 Weekly

According to VGW’s executive product advisor Derek Brinkman, the average sweepstakes casino player spends just $25 per week across VGW platforms.
“That’s a totally different audience from real-money casino gamblers,” Brinkman explained. “Most of our players just play casually — maybe while watching TV, waiting in line, or picking up their kids. It’s quick, fun entertainment, not high-stakes gambling.”

Personalized Limits for High Spenders

VGW’s player protection system kicks in once a user spends over $2,000 lifetime. At that point, the player must provide a simple proof of funds — like a bank statement or tax return — so VGW’s Responsible Gameplay Team can set a custom spending limit tailored to that individual.
“The vast majority of players never reach that point,” Brinkman added. “But if someone plays more frequently, we want to make sure they’re always playing within their means.”

Sweepstakes Casinos Emphasize Fun, Not Gambling

Paul Foster, director of Yellow Social Interactive (operator of Pulsz Casino), reinforced that sweepstakes casinos are all about entertainment, not gambling.
“Players spend 15–20 minutes for fun — not hours like on gambling sites,” Foster said. “They use their free coins, play for enjoyment, and walk away. Our industry is about safe, social, free-to-play fun.”

This message aligns with how sweepstakes casinos position themselves — offering a legal, fun, and risk-free alternative to traditional online casinos.

Strong Age Verification and Safety Standards

Critics have claimed that sweeps casinos attract minors or lack strict age checks, but Foster dismissed those accusations as “completely wrong.”
“Our platforms are age-verified and adult-only,” he said. “Players must prove they’re 21 or older with valid ID, passport, or driver’s license. Some sites even require a selfie next to your ID to confirm your identity. We use top-tier third-party software to keep minors out and maintain a safe environment.”

All SGLA member platforms, including VGW, Pulsz, and Modo Casino, require users to be 21+, going beyond the industry’s usual 18+ standard.
“This isn’t just a checkbox saying ‘I’m over 21,’” Foster added. “We do full verification. Our goal is to provide safe, adult entertainment — not gambling exposure for minors.”

Raising the Bar for the Sweepstakes Casino Industry

The SGLA and its members are pushing for higher responsible-gaming standards across the sweepstakes casino market, ensuring all players enjoy a safe, transparent, and fun experience.
As Jeff Duncan, SGLA’s executive director, summed it up: “Only adults can play on our sites. We’re building the best, most responsible version of social gaming.”
